Why should I get a Intel Core 2 Duo dual over a Intel Core 2 Quad core? (price not the issue)?

Why should I get a Intel 400 - but I am willing to spend more to get more. I wish to media-edit; play high-end games; render 3d environments; and compile detailed programs and comprehensive mathematical algorithms. Software is where my brain is - hardware is lacking. Just need advice on the Core 2 Duo dual over core? (price not the issue)? I need to upgrade my most power processor with exceeding computer with the fastest and a Intel Core 2 Quad chip itself. Cooling/Power/Motherboards - I can handle.

dual cores run cooler, overclock higher, perform better on many current applications, and are cheaper.

however, in your case, you might want a quad core (the intel series, not amd)

Go for quad core, eventually there will be programs that can use 4 cores, in the meantime, it can't hurt.

Up to you, but just a note. Over 95% of the games can't benefit from Quad processors yet.

Go for the quad core if price is not an issue can't benefit **YET** from the extra that a but in a year or demanding and the current duo, the quad core will be.

It is true that most programs core is starting to struggle 2 when software is more quad core has to offer a blessing.

Having said that, the duo is currently better value for money.
