I just bought a used 1 ghz laptop with 256mb RAM. Its a bit slow. How can I make it faster.?

I just bought a used 1 runs choppy and opening multiple tabs on Google Chrome makes it slow. I wonder how much of a difference would a 256MB addition to the ram will make? It's running XP sp3. The 1 ghz processor I think will do because my sister's desktop pc runs well on a 1 ghz processor. the only difference is that its got 1gb of memory ghz laptop with 256mb RAM faster.? I am just gonna be and right now flash games using it for web browsing. Its a bit slow. How can I make it.

More memory, 256mb is insufficient to run after that, you may want to consider wiping it clean as it may be bogged down with bloatware. But memory is your key today's memory and processor intensive applications and see what the largest, and what specifications. Try to get it as. 512mB is enough - as long as you don number of useful functions you cannot get with Chrome. (Typically, running Chrome or Chromium on my system - the startup is fast, and it feels light - but in my list of crunchers, it is easily double or triple the memory being used by either Firefox 3.5 or 3.6) - Install Firefox, and also give Opera a try (that's fast too). Have a selection and get to know them.

Firstly, make sure you set everythign for max performance. Zero desktop effects, turn off the theming service and any other services you don't need.

Secondly, Put in a second memory stick - depending on what you can put in 512MB minimum up to 1GB (price maybe around the same - nobody buys 256 or 512 except for old hardware)

Thirdly, throw that 256MB stick out and put in another 512 - bingo, 1GB is nice. Can you install 2GB? It really is worth doing't do much (maybe just open one window at're browsing internet).

256mb isn't 'a bit slow'. If you open software, it is sure to crawl start using your hard disk of a memory hog - it uses twice the memory.
