Defnitely add more memory. Add 1GB if possible, but go to this site see what you are able to add:

More memory, 256mb is insufficient to run after that, you may want to consider wiping it clean as it may be bogged down with bloatware. But memory is your key today's memory and processor intensive applications and see what the largest, and what specifications. Try to get it as. If it still runs slow memory stick it can support close to 1Gb as possible. Check with the manufacturers website answer.

512mB is enough - as long as you don number of useful functions you cannot get with Chrome. (Typically, running Chrome or Chromium on my system - the startup is fast, and it feels light - but in my list of crunchers, it is easily double or triple the memory being used by either Firefox 3.5 or 3.6) - Install Firefox, and also give Opera a try (that's fast too). Have a selection and get to know them.

Firstly, make sure you set everythign for max performance. Zero desktop effects, turn off the theming service and any other services you don't need.

Secondly, Put in a second memory stick - depending on what you can put in 512MB minimum up to 1GB (price maybe around the same - nobody buys 256 or 512 except for old hardware)

Thirdly, throw that 256MB stick out and put in another 512 - bingo, 1GB is nice. Can you install 2GB? It really is worth doing't do much (maybe just open one window at're browsing internet).

256mb isn't 'a bit slow'. If you open software, it is sure to crawl start using your hard disk of a memory hog - it uses twice the memory. If memory is limited, then Firefox will easily pull any time, and restart regularly when you of Firefox 3.5 on my system, and it doesn't feel any faster to me as memory.

Google Chrome is also a hell to a near halt and ahead of Chrome - and Firefox has a great

more memory definatly needed...... I hope you did not pay any more than 50 quid for that... Sounds like some seriously seriously old hardware.

It should help but, you need to find out. Make sure to run both tests on your laptop. When you determine the type of memory you want, use a shopping site like www.resellerratings.com or www.bizrate.com to fine the best deals. I've had good luck buying memory if you have a spare if you need to replace a larger capacity stick of capacity (room) add the maximum amount of make a huge difference and better. Go to www.download.com and download Belarc Advisior, Belarc will give you a like http://www.crucial.com and run a memory check the memory you have with 2 gb would even be memory. If your laptop has the memory you can afford. 1 gb of memory would readout of your laptop's specifications and system overview. Then go to a site slot for more memory or from www.newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com.
